Iphone 3G? I don't think so.

With the new Iphone 3g out, its now only available if you sign a new plan from singtel. I'm not sure if they even allow buying the handset itself without any contract.

With Iphone, Singtel actually came up with three new mobile plans.
CLICK ON THE IMAGE FOR CLEARER VIEW

8Gb iphone costs additionally S$348,S$49,free and 16Gb costs additionally S$508,S$208, free with Iflexi value, plus, premium respectively.

If you want to stay on your current voice plan, you cannot continue by changing to the Iflexi plans to get IPhone. To get IPhones, you either have to terminate your contract, which comes with a penalty of S$800 if the contractual period has not met, or you either sign another new number/line with the IFlexi plans and use it concurrently with the old voice plan.

Also, with your old voice plan, you may want to think of signing up mobile broadband bundled together to get IPhone 3g, but the phone itself will cost more.
S$568,S$728 for 8Gb and 16Gb respectively.

Yzuke thinks: I don't think it is worth it at all. Such an expensive phone, I think alternatively another phone like the HTC Touch series is worth more the money. IPhone 3G with 2mp camera only? Thats quite sad. But I do prefer its user interface a lot more than windows mobile. With spacious storage with 8Gb or 16Gb, there wouldn't be much problem storing your music and videos. Will do a review if I get to touch an Iphone.

Windows Mobile? BORING!

Microsoft's dominating computer Operating Systems. Next target, Mobile Devices.
"Not So Easy" says google as they now come up with something more interesting.

Introducing Android. Open Source Linux Operating system for Mobile Devices. Its an alternative to windows mobile, and open source! Free for developers. You can download the Software Development Kit(SDK) here.

Hey i've got a try out on my HTC Touch. Got it from some unknown guy while searching on the internet. Looks very user friendly, and simple. The user interface is still better than windows mobile 6, even though its still in development.

Future is with Linux. GO LINUX!

Google Chrome

So whats all the hype about the new browser called google chrome? To you guys out there check it out at http://www.google.com/chrome. I was amazed by the speedy download, the installer is only 474 kb. Frankly i was not impressed by it at first, the icon for the program looks weird and childish. Look at the icon in the yellow box. It look just like a pokeball from pokemon dosent it?To be honest the design of the browser is still aceptable(acept from the icon). Chrome is a different kind of browser that you can find out there. It is simple, clean and easy to use. Without all the extra cluttered widgets or skins. The speed, I can assure you is faster than firefox and internet explorer. However i miss the familiar layout of my firefox with its skin, date temperature widgets. Nevertheless google chrome is good for those who want speed and power and does not mind a minimal design.

Trend Micro

Maximum security. Online freedom.

Trend Micro's products are split into a few categories:
  1. For Home (& Home Office)

  2. For Business
    • Small
    • Medium
    • Enterprise
Today, i shall introduce to you some of their products for home.
I am a satisfied user of Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007, and i find it easy to use.

Above is a screenshot of the main page of the Anti-Virus (AV).

As you can see from the screenshot, it has a very clear interface and is very user friendly.

It consists of 6 main tabs on the left side of the main page:
  • Overview
  • Virus & Spyware Controls
  • Personal Network & Firewall Controls
  • Internet & Email Controls
  • Other Settings
  • Help & Support

The latest Trend Micro product can be found on their website http://apac.trendmicro.com/ (Asia-Pacific) or http://us.trendmicro.com/ (US).

Their newest product have a similar interface as PC-cillin Internet Security 2007.

Key Features of Trend Micro Internet Security 2008:
  • Anti-virus
  • Anti-spyware
  • Email safety scan
  • Protection against rootkits
  • Proactive intrusion blocking
  • Anti-spam
  • Two-way firewall
  • Home network protection
  • Website authentication
  • Parental controls
  • Data theft prevention

I like Trend Micro's Real-Time Protection that it gives the computer the needed security when opening files and when the programs start running.

It also warns you when some programs are trying to change your computer/internet settings, giving you the rights over the programs to choose whether u want to allow the changes in the settings, when some of the programs might be malicious.

However, there isn't much options for the scanning part of Trend Micro, unlike other products like Adaware, which have "Smart Scan" that saves much of my time.

Trend Micro's scanning takes quite some time, and therefore, it is recommended to scan only when you have the time.

Trend Micro is not well known for scanning properties and it is listed at the bottom of the top AVs around for scanning as it had missed some viruses during comparison.

Teachers' Day Video 2008

LOL. Saw that video shown in the celebration today? Done by techyouon eh! Don't play play.

Serious, the front part is not well done. It's last minute work. Edited some things in slightly before the event started. The first picture was put in that time, and the part when we had one eleven's video was also edited due to grammatical error. Also, I was supposed to remove one of Ms Sylvia Foo's photo, but forgot it. If i really did, the audio will go away too. Makes the whole thing disorganised and odd. With only windows movie maker to do all that, its quite a challenge. Exported it out and ERROR came. Windows has unexpectedly blah blah blah error. (don't rely on windows too much, use UBUNTU!) Luckily managed use Mdm Yip's computer in the HOD room, with her, Mrs Chiang's and Mr Lau(that Tech manager) support and help, managed to get it done in time! It was quite a gamble ah. I didn't really go watch the exported version after editting on Mdm Yip's computer. Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH! HAPPY TEACHERS' DAY!

Because of this I didn't manage to get a taste of the cake my class bought ah! AHHH. Sian!

Its all worth it in the end ahh. All the cheering during the video. Made me wanna cry. LOL

Wait while 3.0 comes.

USB 3.0

On September 18, 2007, Pat Gelsinger demonstrated USB 3.0 at the Intel Developer Forum. USB 3.0 is targeted at ten times the current bandwidth, reaching roughly 4.8 Gbit/s (600MB/s) by utilizing two additional high-speed differential pairs for "Superspeed" mode, and with the possibility for optical interconnect. The USB 3.0 specification was released on August 13, 2008 and commercial products are expected to arrive in 2009 or 2010. USB 3.0 is designed to be backwards-compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 and employs more efficient protocols to conserve power.

Imagine transfering 1gB of data from your external hard drive in 2 secs or slightly lesser. Thats Cool.

You Can't Believe It

I am currently smiling all the way doing this post. I had waited to do this post for such a long time! ITS FINALLY HERE! ITS FINALLY HERE!!

Unique Skin is a company which prints laptops and other gadgets and devices' skins. It provides full customisation and also with a variety of design they have themselves. This is what I personally like about them. We can design our own kind of skin to be used on our gadgets. It makes the gadget special and unique. Perhaps, that is why they named themselves unique skin.

Ordering the product is rather easy too! All I need is a web browser and the applets to design your skin is already in the webpage itself. No messy workarounds with jpeg files and photoshop. Self Customisation made easy.

Visit http://www.uniqueskins.com for more details.

WEE! WEE! Wii!

Introducing Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo Wii for me is the best game console currently in the market.

What is Wii?
Wii is for everyone. It revolutionizes gaming by bringing in interactions with the game with the Nintendo Wii remote or the Nunchuk. Nintendo Wii will give your family and friends a social experience. It seems like you ARE playing the game, not just by pressing a few buttons, but really moving your arm in a game of tennis and etc.

Why do I need Wii?

Wii is not just a gaming console, it's a reason to get together with your friends and family and play today's hottest games. Wii offers legendary Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda and Metroid, as well as all new classics like Wii Sports and Wii Play. Create your own Mii character to star in Wii games. Play friends online over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or use the Internet Channel to surf the net from your sofa. You can even download classic Nintendo games using the Wii Shop Channel.

Nintendo Wii (Jpn) $ 364.00 SGD
Nintendo Wii (Local) + 4 games $ 599.00 SGD
